The Barnacle's Revenge Campaign

Cracking the Rock
Session 24

The crew sailed to Tidewater Rock of Windward Isle. As they journeyed, Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop and Fae provided information about the history of Tidewater Rock and its current owner, Lady Agasta Smythee. Fishguts explained that the crew could take the Rock by force, stealth or diplomacy. The crew decided on a diplomatic route.

As the crew approached Windward Isle, they purposefully made efforts to present a non-threatening posture. When The Barnacle’s Revenge pulled into the lagoon of Windward Isle, they were soon greeted by Lady Smythee herself who wanted to know about their reasons for coming to Windward Isle.

Captain Teech Blackfyre told the lady that they were there to make an alliance with Tidewater Rock against [[:barnabas-harrigan | Barnabas Harrigan. Lady Smythee was interested in hearing more over dinner, but required a hostage to guarantee the good behavior of the five people who would negotiate the alliance. [[:tilly-brackett | Tilly Brackett]] was chosen to be the hostage.

While Tilly was searched for weapons and escorted to the tower, the negotiation party of Teech, Fae, Jheron, Solaruus Grakkor, and Xorlox cleaned themselves up for dinner. Royster McCleagh, the sergeant-at-arms for Tidewater Rock, came down to the ship to escort the negotiation party to dinner. While he escorted them into the tower he mentioned that Lady Smythee had rules of etiquette and that she would dismiss people from the meal if they failed to meet her expectations of decorum.

Royster escorted the party to the fourth floor of the tower to the feast hall where the table was laid with fine china at seven places. Lady Smythee sat at one end of the table, the party in the middle, and Royster at the other end. Four guards stood watch around the room.

Lady Smythee introduced herself and then asked for the crew to introduce themselves. Teech introduced herself as the Captain of the Revenge and Fae as the first mate. Jheron was introduced as ship’s surgeon, Xorlox as the master-at-arms and Solaruus as the ship’s helmsman. Lady Smythee was impressed with Teech, Fae and Jheron but less impressed with Solaruus and Xorlox.

During the first course, Xorlox used the tablecloth as a napkin and Teech spat on the floor, causing the lady to banish them from her presence. Over the next few courses, Fae entertained with stories of the crew’s prowess and their hatred for Captain Harrigan. At the end of the meal, she told the remaining Crew that she would think about their offer, and provide an answer the next morning.

Xorlox and Teech ate the rest of their meal with the guards. After he finished, Xorlox left the tower and shifted into a bird. Taking flight, he explored the island looking for other buildings, but found only a small goat shed instead. Meanwhile, Teech used her hat of disguise to transform into a guard to explore the tower. She managed to pass herself off as a new guard who journeyed to the island on the pirate vessels and explored most of the tower. To leave, she transformed into a young serving wench and talked her way past the guards at the door.

After the dinner, Fae, Jheron and Solaruus are joined by Tilly who talks about a fascinating man who visited her while she had dinner in a cell. He called himself Telemain and told Tilly tales of another land far away from the Shackles, where he worked with beings made of metal. She cannot remember the name he called it, but it was war-something Tilly says.

As everyone returns to the ship, they share their impressions of the inhabitants. Many believe something is going on and that the Lady Smythee is up to something. However, they all agree to wait until she makes her decision the next morning before taking additional actions.

The next morning, Royster brings a roll of parchment to the ship. The officers read it to discover that Lady Smythee is willing to enter into an alliance with the Crew if Jheron agrees to marry Lady Smythee following Shackles custom. After a few negotiations, the party agrees to Lady Smythee’s plan and the wedding occurs that evening. Lady Smythee introduces the Crew to the residents of Tidewater Rock, which includes Telemain d’Cannith, the crafter of the magical items Lady Smythee sells to keep the tower operating.

The Dominating Barnacles
Session 23

To replenish the ship’s repaired water tank, the The Barnacle’s Revenge set out for a nearby island with a known fresh water spring at its center. Upon arriving at the island, the narrow Revenge easily navigated up a river and further inland. Upon reaching a narrowed delta at the mouth of the river, Captain Teech Blackfyre sent First Mate Fae to lead an expedition to retrieve the needed water. Fae took Jheron, Owlbear Hartshorn, Rosie Cusswell, Solaruus Grakkor, and Xorlox. The group easily maneuvered up a river to the water source and returned to the ship without incident.

However, on returning to the ship, they noticed birds retreating towards the center of the island, fleeing something that had entered the same cove the Revenge had left earlier that day. Xorlox turned himself into a parrot and flew towards the cove to find the cause of the birds’ distress. He found a massive four-masted Chelish warship called the Dominator had anchored in the cove, apparently seeking a safe harbor to dock for the approaching night.

After Xorlox reported the situation, Teech suggested they try to take the ship, but Xorlox convinced her this was a bad idea based on the number of Chelish marines he had seen onbaord. Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop provided another option. He explained how he and several other pirates had rowed up to a similiar man-o’-war and disabled the tiller by cutting the rope that moves it. It was agreed this was the best option, so Teech ordered Fae to leading the attack on the Dominator.

Fae, Jheron, Narissa, Sandra Quinn, Solaruus, and Xorlox quietly rowed the ship’s cutter up to the Dominator. Fae used her magic to send a rope up to the outcropping next to the windows of the tiller cabin and tie itself off. Jheron climbed up the rope and peaked in, just as the ship’s boatswain led a security patrol through the room. Hanging next to a window, Jheron had no where to hide when a marine came to check that the window was secured. The marine alerted the other 2 Chelish guards, however, with his quick wits, Jheron quickly pulled the surprised marine out the window, causing him to land in water next to the partiy’s boat.

Jheron proceeded to swing himself into the room, and launched arrows at the boatswain, who identified himself as Commander Kyan Kain. Fae, scurrying up the rope behind Jheron, ordered him to fire again, causing Commander Kain to challenge her before sounding the alarm. Xorlox and Narissa rushed to climb the rope to the tiller room, while Solaruus coldly caused the swimming Chelish marine to fall asleep and drown. Sandra pulled a grappling hook and rope out of her bag and quickly ascended to a second window, only to watch it be blocked by the addition of more guards.

As Jheron moved to block one of the tiller room doors, marines poured out of both entrances and began attacking him and moving to flank Fae while Commander Kain pulled a glowing battleaxe out and struck at Fae. Fae fought back with her own crossbow and hit Kain. Meanwhile, Solaruus summoned a fire bettle into the battle, which took the attention of some of the guards so they attacked it instead of Jheron. Xorlox climbed through the window, but Narissa got halfway in because of the crowd already in the room. Sandra kicked open the window in front of her and summoned a surge of water to knock Commander Kain back into the complex system of ropes and pulleys that controlled the tiller.

While Kain was tangled in the ropes, Jheron hit him again. Fae drank a potion of healing as marines started to target Solaruus from the upper deck . He fired back with magic missiles, killing one of the enemy bowmen. Xorlox and Narissa entered the combat, killing a marine. Seeing the room be overran with more marines, Sandra cast a spell that knocked out the marines, freeing the Crew up long enough to kill Kain and slice the rope keeping the tiller working.

While evacuating the Dominator, the Crew came under fire, and one marine tried to board the skiff. Solaruus shocked everyone by killing the wounded marine with a single spell. Soon the Crew cleared the Dominators’s bowmen and returned to the Revenge. Teech ordered the ship to depart after the others returned, and using the cover of a fog cloud, the ship quickly made it’s escape from the island their Chelish enemies.

A few days later, the Revenge came across a Sargavan galleon under attack by another pirate vessel, the Devil’s Pallor. Fishguts recognized the ship as belonging to the notorious slaver Captain Gortus Svard. The crew decided to reclaim the galleon from Svard and to take his ship as their own. With some expert maneuvering, Solaruus managed to use a feint to get in close to the pirate vessel.

While Teech manned the Revenge, the rest of the officers quickly attacked Svard, under the impression that Svard’s crew will surrender if their captain is captured or dead. After precision shots from Jheron’s bow, a geyser of air throwing him into the air that was summoned by Xorlox, and deadly magic missiles fired by Solaruus, Svard was dead before he or his crew could react. The Squallor’s crew quickly surrendered. After looting the plunder from the merchant vessel, Teech evenly split the Squallor’s crew with the crew of the Revenge and then took command of the Squallor with Rosie Cusswell as his first mate, and Clyde, Jack Scrimshaw and Ty Le filling in as the rest of the officers. Then both ships set sail for Tidewater Rock.

Session 21

Group puttered around in Bloodcove buying items and gearing up for departure from the port.

Met some new people in port:

  • Cassandra of the Crone’s Eye, an arcana shop in Free Trade Square. She had a conversation with Solaruus Grakkor, telling him he needed to accept his past with Lamashtu before he could move into his future. Also gave him a book written by a Sorcerer who had an aberrant past as well.
*Florea of the Conclave of Bloodcove Badgers, head of the Druids in the area. She bartered with Xorlox for the creation of magical items.
*Ty Le, a monk who was drinking at the Witchlight Inn. Teech Blackfyre took umbrage with Ty Le for his comment about her her poor attempt at gaining Infamy for the crew. This triggered a bar fight that forced Clyde, Devanor Ondovir, Fae and Rosie Cusswell to come to their aid. Rosie was taken down by 3 bar patrons, while Fae took on an enraged prostitute who took issue with Fae putting “her man” to sleep. At the end, Ty Le agreed to join the crew and

Session 20

Fae, Teech Blackfyre and Xorlox met with Devanor at the Witchlight Inn after the fight with the naga. Because of their concerns about the disappearances, Devanor offered to look for information about the former innkeeper’s nephew, Mynafee Gorse, from his local contacts. Teech still did not trust Devanor, but Fae did not find a hidden motive, except to impress her. Fae and Xorlox stayed at the Inn to tell tails of the crew of the The Barnacle’s Revenge, in an effort to increase the crew’s infamy.

Bored the Inn, Teech went to Shaduk’s Ninepins to gather information. Learned about different things, including sightings of the ghost ship Deathknell and the Thresher, a ship belonging to Isabella “Inkskin” Locke but when she tried to get more information about attacks on pirate vessels by Cheliax patrols, she was spotted and caused an exodus from the gambling den.

While trying to sneak back to the Witchlight inn, she ran into Crimson Cogward and 3 others. Crimson wanted revenge for the death of Conchobar, so Teech challenged him to a duel. They fought, and were pretty evenly matched, quickly wounding each other, until Crimson lost his temper and flew at Teech knocking them both into the water. Teech surfaced away from the remaining guards and saw them retrieve something from water. Nearly dead on her feet, Teech hurried back to the ship for healing.

The next morning, Fae, Teech and Xorlox met with Devanor to discuss what he had learned. He explained that everyone had gone to ground in regards to the Aspis Consortium and that Mynafee Gorse had disappeared from his lodgings sometime the night before. Devanor explained that Petrune the current innkeeper had worked for Gorse’s uncle Minegul but had taken over the inn after he disappeared.

Teech said she wanted to look into Petrune more, so Devanor suggested they check out his office on the second floor of the Inn. Xorlox broke the door down and they began looking through Petrune personal things. In his personal office, they found a ledger that Fae determined was faked to conceal large sums of money being spent on something. In his rooms they found robes; black candles; and hidden in a secret compartment a key, spellbook and spell components.

Teech kicked in the door into the last compartment and found an altar with journal from Petrune, discussing how he developed his necromatic abilities and how he was using those abilities to serve Groteus. Devanor recognized the altar symbols as belonging to Groteus, God of the End Times and Devourer of Worlds.

Using key from secret compartment, unlocked door to stairs leading down beneath the Inn.
Among the lower roots, they ran into zombies before finding a secret entrance into the city sewers. Sewers lead to underground chamber where Petrune had zombie guards and set up altar to Groteus. During fight with zombies, Devanor reveals he is also a cleric of Cayden Cailean, god of alcohol, bravery and freedom.

The foursome fights through zombie guards only to be hit by a fireball from Petrune that knocked Devanor and Fae unconscious, and left Xorlox and Teech barely able to stand. Petrune revealed how ha had sacrificed slaves to Groteus then raised them as zombies to do his bidding. He thought Devanor’s god had sent him here to stop Petrune from summoning Groteus. Xorlox revived Devanor, and Teech took healing potions. Devanor healed the party, reviving Fae. Petrune fire magic missiles at the group, then summoned more zombies.

Xorlox cast Fog Cloud to provide cover the zombies, and shield the Crew from Petrune’s view. As the wounded group was trying desperately to heal themselves to confront the necromancer, they suddenly heard someone coming up the sewer tunnel to their rear. Fearing the worst, the group was surprised when it turned out Sandra had brought Jheron, Rosie, Owlbear, and Clyde plus Aspis Consortium mercenaries, all to save the party and kill Petrune.

The clerics healed the group, while Narissa and Xorlox went to attack the zombies in the fog. Teech drank a potion of invisibility, then sneaked through the fog using a wall to guide her towards Petrune. The clerics kill the rest of the zombies with channeled positive energy and Clyde, Jheron, Narissa, Sandra and Xorlox all run into the fog after Petrune. Devanor tells Fae that she had to choose her destiney to go into the fog or not, but his path led another direction. Fae decides to join the others and plunges through the fog as well.

Teech sneak attacks Petrune, piercing him through the back with her rapier, with Narissa and Xorlox joining her soon after. As the others came out of the fog to confront him, Petrune steps back towards the altar kills himself as a final sacrifice to reveal Golarion to Groteus. As his blood touched the altars, greenish blue energy tears open a rip in space, revealing the presence of Groteus. He energy unleashed creates a strong wind that blows away the fog and knocks any not by the altars down the sewer tunnel.

Groteus tries to enter the plane, but Sandra and Clyde channel energy to fight him off, but cannot do it alone. The rest of the remaining crew by the altar joins in and concentrates on closing the portal. They are successful but it leaves a mark on the group.

While recovering from fight, Sandra reveals about Kelim Esteban tracking down Fishguts because of Aspis Consortium captain being ransomed back to them, only captain was never hired by official Aspis Consortium. Turned out Petrune had killed his boss, Minegul Gorse and pretended to be him to conduct unapproved business as the Aspis Consortium, including the slave trade operations. Aspis Consortium rewards group for the death of Petrune.

Disappearance at the Witchlight Inn
Session 19

The Crew arrives at Bloodcove, a small port city built on the roots, trunks and branches of huge mangrove trees. Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop directs Solaruus Grakkor to steer the The Barnacle’s Revenge to the docks at Warehouse Row.

There they are met by Tesha Umbertine, the Dockmaster of Bloodcove, who asks Teech Blackfyre for information about their ship, and purpose in Bloodcove. After docking, Teech leads the officers and Clyde towards the Witchlight Inn, a prominent inn in Warehouse Row. Moss hangs from the inn’s eaves and glimmers in moonlight, giving the inn the eerie appearance from which it takes its name. Fishguts recommends the Inn and states the rumors about the Inn are not true and no one has disappeared on any of his stays.

Soon the Revenge’s Crew is seated at a table by a mouthy waitress. After serving everyone their drinks (Withlight ales for the Captain and Navigator, Elven wine for Fae, Orc’s Balls for Xorlox and water for Jheron and Clyde, the waitress left to get their food. A handsome half-elf stopped by the table and introduced himself as Devanor Ondovir, a traveling storyteller. He asks for tales of their recent adventures, and after permission from Teech, Fae recounts their exploits on Bonewrack Isle with the Brinebrood Queen.

Soon the officers get tired and start to go to bed. Devanor escorted Fae up to her room, with Xorlox and Narissa following soon after. Teech made arrangements for room and board for the officers, while Clyde and Jheron went up to sleep. Teech was escorted up to the Captain’s accommodations, leaving Solaruus at the table, falling asleep. The last thing he felt before passing out was clawed hands gripping his shoulders.

The next morning, Fae woke up to Devanor knocking at her door. She asked him if the Elven wine was normally so potent, and he replied that the previous night was the first time that he had been left with a hangover. Fae grew suspicious and went to check on the other officers. Clyde and Jheron were both in their rooms, experiencing similar after effects, but Xorlox’s room was empty like it had never been slept in.

Devanor followed Fae downstairs where she questioned the barkeep to find that the barmaid had told him that the half-orc and the snake guy would be returning to their ship and would not need rooms. Worried about her shipmates, Fae decided to head back to the ship to find Solaruus Xorlox. Clyde and Jheron soon followed after they were told that Fae had headed back to the ship.

Xorlox woke up to snoring. He was chained to a wall in a dark room, with only the small flames of a cooking fire providing faint illumination. Xorlox spotted Narissa asleep in a cage by the fire. Xorlox tried to force his chains open but could hardly budge them. After a few moments, Xorlox recognized the snoring belonged to Solaruus and woke him up. Solaruus asked what was going on, and Xorlox told him what he knew.

While they were talking, they heard the sound of scales sliding over stone. A hissing voice told them they were here on the orders of “Mother”, Solaruus to receive a gift from their mother and Xorlox because he had killed the Whale. The voice identified itself as Jolissess.

Teech woke up and found out his crew had left for the ship looking for 2 of the officers. Teech traveled to the ship to find Fae had left looking for the missing crew and Jheron and Clyde had gone below deck looking for Xorlox and Solaruus. Teech told Rosie Cusswell that she was going shopping and that the crew could leave notes for her at the Witchlight Inn. Clyde and Jheron soon followed after, hoping to find Teech or Fae to help in the search for the missing crew.

Meanwhile Fae was looking for their missing friends with Devanor’s help. By gathering information in Free Trade Square, they learned that barmaid was named Krella and was the daughter, and only child, of the missing original owner of the Witchlight Inn and that she lived in Free Trade Square.

While looking for magic items, Teech ended up at the store of Mikail, a merchant of some repute, while talking about possible purchases, Mikail gave Teech an offer for exclusive rights to sail the Revenge’s merchandise in Bloodcove. Teech took the contract to discuss with the rest of the officers later. While leaving the merchant’s store, she ran into Fae, Clyde and Jheron who were looking for the missing officers.

In their dark prison, Jolissess told Solaruus that his mother was actually Lamashtu, the Mother of Monsters. The naga reached into the pot on the stove and removed a purple clam shell that had opened in the flame. As she brought it closer, the captives realized that the shell held a purple pearl. With a quick motion the naga thrust the pearl at Solaruus’ forehead, where it merged with the half-orc. Solaruus began to have visions about his powers and other unknown scenes. As he began to become overwhelmed by the images, his last thought was an image of his mother. The naga then told the druid that he was her payment for delivering the Mother’s gift and then speared him with her tail, forcing her sleeping poison to reenter his system and causing him to pass out as well.

With the information about Krella’s apartment being in the area, Teech and Fae questioned nearby merchants about where she lived and Jheron and Clyde used the information to locate her home. Breaking down her door, they find her absent, so they search her place, finding an unknown holy symbol. Clyde calls on Gorum to detect magic, and locates an illusionary wall. Behind the wall is a staircase leading down into the ground.

Following the stairs, the search party encounters several lizard men who claim to be working the “the Dark One” and attacks the group. However, the reptiles are soon overwhelmed by the officers, who move deeper into the underground chambers. After spotting their missing crew, they are attacked by Jolissess who uses a superior knowledge of arcane magic in conjunction with her poisoned tail to try to debilitate most of the group. During the fight, Solaruus regains consciousness and using a newfound mastery of his gifts to free himself from his bonds and then to attack the naga, defeating her.

They release Xorlox and Narissa from their bonds and then searched the naga’s nest, finding many useful and valuable items.

The Bloody Trek to Bloodcove
Session 18

The Barnacle’s Revenge is heading toward Bloodcove on the Mwangi Coast, following the slavers’ of the Aspis Consortium to their headquarters. A few hours before sundown one night, Jheron spots a column of black smoke rising into the sky. Since the ship was out at sea, with no land in sight, the Crew determines it can only be a ship burning and decide to investigate.

Soon, the Crew can see a Chelish naval cutter has defeated a Shackles pirate ship. Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop tells the Officers that Chelaxians typically attack pirate ships, and then execute any surviving pirates by locking them below decks and setting the pirate vessel on fire. Teech Blackfyre orders the Revenge to approach the Chelish cutter with setting sun behind them so they can catch them unaware.

Solaruus Grakkor maneuvers the Revenge skillfully into place beside the cutter, catching them completely off guard. The Crew quickly grappled the Chelish ship, and the Officers lead the attack on the few marines manning the ship. Despite casualties among the Crew, they kill the marines and take Captain Cyvantris Tisserond of the Famished Mane captive. They quickly, send Crew over to the burning pirate ship and capture the remaining Chelish marines, and free the pirates. The pirates turn out to be the remaining crew of the former pirate ship Vorsfang, infamous for the bad luck that befalls its crew. All fourteen of them agree to join the crew of the Revenge.

Fishguts points out that there is now enough crew to man a second ship, and that they could ransom the Mane and her crew back to Cheliax through special brokers in Bloodcove. Solaruus, Jheron, Rosie and Fishguts serve as officers on the Mane with most of the Revenge’s Crew, while the Vorsfang crew mans the Revenge, under Xorlox’s guidance.

Several days later on the trek to Bloodcove, both ships spot a fishing trawler riding low in the water, heeling several degrees to port, obviously taking on water, with a fishing net dragging in the water on the starboard side. There is no sign of any crew.

Fae summons a dolphin to join Xorlox, also in dolphin form, in swimming over and investigating the ship. Circling the ship, the scouts find a breach in the hull on the port side and the dinghy on the stern is missing, indicating the crew possibly abandoned ship. However, on their way back to report to the ship, Xorlox spots a dinghy deep underwater and slowly sinking, with no crew on board. Teech suspects it is a trap but is convinced to send a party over to investigate the ship, since there might be something of value on board.

Most of the Officers on board the Revenge lead the search of the upper decks of trawler, finding signs of someone hurriedly removing signs of a battle. Suspecting a trap, the Crew splits up into fighting groups to traverse the stairs leading to the hull belowdecks. There they find four sahuagin lying in wait. After a short but intense battle, all but one is killed. At the end though, the last sahuagin calls out, “Krillort will avenge us!” before biting a puffer fish spine and dies suffocating from the swelling of its throat from the effects of the posion.

After searching the bodies and gathering any usable supplies, the Crew scuttles the trawler further, to prevent it from being used as bait again. Fae wonders who Krillort might be and how come they keep encountering their sahuagin.

A few days later, both ships reach the coastal city of Bloodcove.

Slaving the day away
Session 17

Following information gathered from the freed slaves of the defeated Truewind, the Crew tracks down a slaver den on Mohr Cay. Deciding to attack the slavers from land and sea, Xorlox leads most of the crew through the jungle while Teech Blackfyre, Fae, Jheron, Solaruus Grakkor, Clyde, Rosie Cusswell, and Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop rowed toward the slaver’s dock. Sandra was left in charge of a skeleton crew on the ship.

The Captain’s party was met with initial suspicion but after some tactful diplomacy, they were introduced to Haku, the leader of the Slaver’s den. He invited the party to a large pavilion for drinks, served by his elderly grandmother, Granny. Teech talks her way into inspecting the slaves to see which ones might suit their fake buyer. Clyde accompanies her to view the slaves.

Meanwhile Xorlox gets lost in the jungle and takes his party in circles. Finally figuring out the correct path they make their way towards the slavers’ den, but they are running much later than anticipated. While waiting for Xorlox’s group to arrive, Fae occupies Haku with ribald tales and Teech has Clyde assist her with knocking out their guide and freeing the slaves.

Granny takes offense to Fae’s stories and declares the negotiations finished. Haku argues with her, but she orders him to escort the group back to their ship. Despite Fae’s best efforts, Haku complies with Granny’s wishes, forcing Fae to attack him to prevent him from calling out more guards. Meanwhile, Teech and Clyde lead the slaves out of the slave pens, with the slaves arming themselves with the weapons from the dead guards.

While Fae leads her group in taking out Haku and his guards, they are surprised when Granny emerges from her hut to speed across the ground to knock Fishguts out with a single flurry of blows. Granny’s charge seemed to turn the tide against the pirates as guard dogs race out to hinder Jheron, while their human counterparts attack Rosie and Solaruus.

After killing the last of the slave pen guards, Teech rushes to help out at the pavilion, while Clyde chases after the slaves who run towards the Revenge’s cutter. Fae faces down Haku while most of the rest of the crew fights the guards and dogs. Jheron dodged around several of the dogs, while killing them with well placed arrows to the eyes and throat.

Clyde takes off with the slaves in the cutter but can’t convince them to row to the ship without arguing with them.

Solaruus emits viscous fluid which causes fear in several of the guards, forcing them to flee, straight into Xorlox and the rest of the crew arriving from the far side of the island. Fae manages to kill a guard attempting to stop her from killing Haku, while Granny knocks out several of the crew with deadly martial arts moves before heading after Jheron, whose arrows she easily deflects.

Between Xorlox’s reinforcements and the remaining conscious members of Fae’s team, the guards are mopped up, while Fae takes out Haku. Granny cries out at Haku’s death, then chugged a potion and disappeared.

After searching the village, the crew finds an altar to an unknown religion in Granny’s hut and correspondence from the Aspis Consortium that originated from Bloodcove in Sragava. The freed slaves agree to join the Barnacle’s Crew and the ship set sail for Bloodcove.

Parties, Peg legs and Piracy
Session 16

The Crew were reacquainted with Captain Merril Pegsworthy at the rechristening ceremony of The Barnacle’s Revenge. After the ceremony, Fae and Pegsworthy enjoyed some private conversations before retiring for the night.

The next morning the Crew leaves Rickety’s Squibs for adventures on the high seas. At the advice of Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop, the travel the merchants routes, searching for vessels to plunder. However, their first adventure occurs their first night at sea, when the Crew is awoken by alarms. Jheron and Solaruus Grakkor are on night watch when they catch some sahuagin sneaking on board. The Crew clashes with the creatures, killing all but one. They try to take the last sahuagin alive, but he ate a posionous fish before shouting out “Krill of Krillort will be avenged.”

A few days later the Revenge came across a merchant vessel and Teech orders it taken. After a few hours of chasing down the sailing ship, the Crew manages to grapple their target and closed for a fight with Captain Portia Runescar, a slaver merchant. After defeating Runescar and her slavers, the Crew freed the slaves and left them in command of the ship. Before leaving the ship though, several of the slaves described being held on an island a few days away. The Crew decided to track down that slaver den to conquer it.

Getting Buzzed While In Port
Session 15

Relaxing Days

After the encounter with the water naga, the crew spent 2 calm days at Rickety’s Squibs, while the The Barnacle’s Revenge was in port being worked on. Fae spent her time spreading tales of the Barnacles crew, while Teech Blackfyre attempted to recruit more crew for the ship. Clyde spent time getting to know some of the Barnacles crew, and Xorlox helped out the local druid, Steward Chandra Bristlewick, with creating water for the wells of the port. Jheron spent his time with Rickety Hake, learning about carpentry, and Solaruus Grakkor disappeared with Sandra Quinn.

Buzzing good time

On the fifth day in port, the crew were talking about their plans for the day when, suddenly a swarm of giant wasps exited the jungle and begin attacking the village. The crew managed to defend themselves and get several villagers to safety before taking refuge in the Commons. They had just begun to relax when several villagers spotted Chandra carrying her injured apprentice out of the jungle, followed closely by several more giant wasps. The crew jumped in to save her and managed to drive away the remnants of the swarm.

Unexpected visitors

Concerned for their allies on the docks, the crew hurried down there to discover the Jheron along with Rickety Hake had managed to save most of the dock workers. They were just beginning to assess the damage when shouts rang out, that the Chelish navy had entered the cove. While Hake and most of his people ran for cover, the crew watched as a longboat pulled up to the docks, depositing several armed men.

After observing the trespassers, the crew determined they were not naval officers but other pirates, who had taken control of a Chelish ship. Teech and Fae approached the group and called out for parley. The leader of the group approached and identified himself as Merril Pegsworthy, a Free Captain come to have his new vessel squibbed. Pegsworthy said that since they had not received a signal to stay away from the cove, they assumed they could approach to conduct negotiations with Hake.

Captain Pegsworthy recognized the Man’s Promise and mentioned that Captain Harrigan was rumored to have sent his first mate to sell that vessel. Fae, sensing that Pegsworthy did not like Harrigan, said that they had reclaimed the vessel from Mr. Plugg. Pegsworthy said that he was glad to hear that Plugg and Master Scourge had finally been shown the same generosity and kindness they gave others.

Since by strict Shackles tradition, Pegsworthy had compromised the secrecy of the identity of the The Barnacle’s Revenge, the lives of he and his crew were at stake. Teech and Fae allowed him to leave without fighting. In response, Pegsworthy asked to be allowed to return in a few days for the rechristening ceremony. Since having a Free Captain christen a vessel is considered good luck in the Shackles, Teech agreed and Pegsworthy left with his men.

Boar-ed and ready for adventure

After Pegsworthy left, Hake approached to say he was thankful to the crew for peacfeully resolving the situation with Pegsworthy. He was concerned about his watchman, who usually would have prevented such an encounter from happening. He asked for the crew to travel along the treacherous trail to investigate the lookout tower on the other end of the cove. Teech, Fae, Clyde and Xorlox set out single file along the path, pinned in by sheer cliff and a 80 foot drop to jagged rocks.

While moving along the path, they came across 2 wild boars, who immediately attacked the party. Xorlox and Teech engaged the creatures in melee combat, while Fae provided support and Clyde summoned a divine weapon on Gorum. They made short work of the beasts and were able to move on to the watch tower. As they approached, a voice called out, “Shoo fly, don’t bother me!” and a large colorful parrot flapped down to circle the crew. It repeated its catch phrase and then flew back up to the watchtower. Fae and Clyde climbed up and found the dead body of the watchman, who apprently had been attacked by the wasps and died of an allergic reaction to the sting he received from the fight.

While searching the tower, the parrot took a liking to Teech and claimed her as his new owner. They also recovered his magical weapon, which along with the body and parrot, they returned to the village. Hake was grateful to have the body, so he allowed the crew to keep the weapon and told Teech that the parrot’s name was Rotgut.

Squibs, Brawls and Nagas, Oh My!
Session 14

Lacking sufficient crew, it took the Man’s Promise 4 days to reach the Slithering Coast and Rickety’s Squibs estuary. Teech Blackfyre and Fae showed the Rickety Hake around the ship. He said it would take 2,000 gp and 8 days to complete the squibbing of the Man’s Promise into the The Barnacle’s Revenge. By selling all the ship’s Plunder, as well as most of the other treasure on the ship, plus Teech and Fae throwing in their own personal money into the deal, Hake was paid his money. He also offered to install a hidden compartment on the ship for an additional 500 gp. When the officers couldn’t pay for it, Hake offered to front the ship a loan for the compartment, with 50% interest due as shares of the ship’s haul, until the debt was paid. The officers agreed and the ship was towed into port for work to begin.

The crew were taken to the Commons, the local inn, where they were provided rooms for free but told they had to pay for their food, drinks and other supplies. Fae made friends with Chandra Bristlewick, the local druid, who told her about the drought they had been experiencing for several months, and how it had caused tensions between the village and the local naga population. Chandra had also been creating water to provide to the village farmers. Meanwhile, Teech had wandered over to a boisterous crowd centered on a human man named Clyde, who turned out to be a shipwrecked cleric of Gorum, who was saved by the village supply ship. Teech challenged Clyde to an arm wrestling contest, and when it was a draw, they began talking about Clyde’s future and came to terms for Clyde to join the ship’s crew. Solaruus Grakkor had wandered off with Sandra Quinn, while Jheron was touring the craftsman shops with Hake.

As afternoon turned to evening, Fae began to tell stories of the crews battles with the undead on Bonewrack Isle while Teech recruited some additional crew. Xorlox was enjoying a drink with Narissa, and most of the other crew had gone to bed. A drunk began bothering Clyde, who responded by shoving the man away. When the drunk fell into a table of his friends, all four of them jumped up to attack Clyde. Fae jumped off the stage to help out but missed her target, while Teech ordered the 3 new crew members to help out Clyde. With Fae and the new crew involved in the fight, a few other bystanders decided to jump in to help out the locals, forcing Xorlox and Teech to join the fray. After a few minutes, all the attackers had either been beaten unconscious or surrendered to the crew. The staff thanked the crew for not damaging any of the Common’s property. Fae gave money for the locals to pay for drinks on them, and then paid gold for the new crew. Clyde was told he would be serving in the bilges, once the ship left port.

The next morning, the crew received invitations from some of the locals, to join them for a game of nine pin, in thanks for not damaging the inn. After arriving at the dock, though, one of the locals was injuried and another knocked into the water, when a naga attacked. Apparently, driven mad by “drought rage,” the naga was lashing out at the village for taking her water. Xorlox tried to negotiate with the creature but it attacked him instead. While Fae and Clyde dried to rescue the local, Xorlox, Narissa and Teech engaged the creature. With the local rescued, Fae rushed to join the melee, while Clyde summoned a spiritual greatsword to attack the create from the water.

After a few tense moments of attack and counterattack, the naga dove back into the water where it was ultimately killed. Shortly after that, Hake arrived to thank the Crew for saving his men. To repay their bravery, he added a second hidden compartment to the Revenge for free.
